The proceeds of this fundraising event went towards the funds we need to get our mobile library project up and running in Ghana- We are looking to raise £20k over the next 6 months to fund essential equipment such as a vehicle.

On the 6 th May Giraffe Mobile Education Project’s first fundraising festival took place raising nearly £1500 for our start-up funds. We had a great afternoon eating superb Ghanaian food, playing games and listening to musicians from around the UK. There was also a fantastic opportunity to not only watch, but get involved in some Ghanaian dancing, which really brought the festival atmosphere to a spring day in Peckham.
Our guests shared with us the books that inspired them to get into reading, from Enid Blyton to George Orwell, and even helped write their own imaginative stories. The children, with their face paints on, crafted the afternoon away making their own giraffe toys, colouring in a giraffe mural and blindfolded identified Ghana on a map! At the ‘market stall’ beautiful African baskets, hats and clothes were sold to generous guests all contributing to the work of Giraffe.

All in all it was a fun filled afternoon of food, drink and great music. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, including the cooks, musicians, dancers, artists and friends who helped make Giraffe Street Festival a roaring success.

We hope that you continue to be inspired by reading, and encouraged to continue to support the Giraffe Education Project’s work in inspiring others through books. Look out for more events in the future and don’t forget you can always donate!
